The Muskoka Murders
by
James Robin Gerus
A worldwide pestilence has turned out to be the most peaceful time in Mickey Butts’s life. For the ex-detective, now True Crime writer, lockdown involves lazy mornings with his beautiful wife, lots of time to work on his next bestseller, and absolutely no mention whatsoever of his “one who got away”— the lone serial killer Mickey failed to catch who still haunts his hometown and his nightmares… But naturally, the peace doesn’t last. With the deadly blood vomiting virus making things look like the end of the world is near, the Muskoka Murderer has decided it’s time for a murdering finale. Mickey’s old friend, Captain Gupta of the Muskoka Police, calls to ask for his help as the bodies start piling up once again. Mickey heads back to Muskoka, where he teams up with old friends and new allies to put the Muskoka Murderer behind bars for good. But with government restrictions tightening, the meddling of a local cult leader interfering with the investigation, and the twisted mind games of the the Muskoka Murderer putting everyone into panic mode, can the team finally close this case? Preferably before Mickey’s world burns down around him?
James Robin Gerus has what he thinks is likely a common story—he began writing that novel he’d always wanted to write during COVID lockdowns, and then he couldn’t stop. Residents of his native Northern Ontario will delight in seeing places they know and love mixed with places born of his own one of a kind imagination. A practiced screenwriter and actor, James is exploring a new world of writing with his debut novel, The Muskoka Murders. When he’s not spinning stories of suspense on page and screen, James loves hiking, playing with his Huskies, and reading anything from Stephen King novels to classical literature. He currently resides near Orangeville, Ontario.
