A Flatlanders View
the poems of Joseph Miller
by
Joseph Miller
In this début collection, Joseph Miller pays tribute to his life. Buzzing with gritty, inner-city Canadiana, crackling with wit, thrumming with deep love and intimacy, these poems acknowledge sorrow and celebrate beauty. Asparagus grows from a pile of manure. Sunlight sneaks through the window of a house where a woman is sick with cancer. A sparrow sings despite everything. With his home province of Saskatchewan as a rolling backdrop, Miller takes readers on a journey through personal struggles—such as his wife’s illness and his work as executive director of a Christian rescue mission—and through some of society's historical and even recent challenges, such as COVID-19. Unescapably honest and reassuringly wise, A Flatlanders View offers hope in the strangest, darkest moments of humanity.
I'm not sure how this applies to me. I have none at this point. Should I be pursuing this?
Joseph Miller is the Executive Director for Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Regina, Saskatchewan, and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity (MDiv) through Briercrest Seminary in Caronport, Saskatchewan. A Flatlanders View is his first book. It is his hope that through his poetry, readers will find a safe place in which to see themselves openly and honestly, and in doing so, find their own voice and freedom. Joseph lives in Regina with his wife, Nancy, and their Yorkie, Jack-Jack.
