Driving Home
Cancer, Concussion, Mom and Me
by
Steffany Moonaz
Driving Home is a memoir focused on a single year of the author’s life in which she and her 9-year-old daughter moved in with her dying mother, she suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting from being hit by a semi-truck, and she dealt with the reality of living hours away from her husband and their 5-year-old son. After the main events of the story are told, the implications of the experience are addressed from a variety of different perspectives, exploring the challenges and opportunities it presented. The story is seen through the lens of her identities as a daughter, a mother, a wife, a researcher, a yogi, and a part of the Jewish tradition. With both honesty and optimism, she presents her personal journey through universal themes of responsibility, loss, trauma, striving, connection, and compassion.
"Steffany Moonaz’s book Driving Home is a memoir for mothers, daughters, givers, survivors, yogis, empaths, and individuals awakening to their potential that will hit you right in the heart. Steffany, a scientist, researcher, and yoga therapist, shares her story about trauma, grief, and loss, as well as the lessons learned around deep commitment, spiritual attunement, and love. If you are looking for a true story full of optimism and honesty, to inspire and entertain you, Driving Home is your next must-read." —Julie Reisler, Author of Get a PhD in YOU "Steffany Moonaz writes the way she teaches, with a gentle honesty that is rare and necessary. In the expected, but sometimes lonely, terrain of grief, her words are a companion on the path." —Suzan Colón, author of Yoga Mind: Journey Beyond the Physical "Perhaps it’s because dancers and yoga teachers have natural grace, but Steffany Moonaz’s new book, Driving Home, illuminates a way to navigate loss with dignity. She tells her story of navigating her mother’s cancer journey while managing her own health crisis and family life with honest reflection. It’s a touching, relatable read that gives you a model for facing your own life challenges." —Christa Fairbrother, ERYT-500, AFP, author of Water Yoga
