Tales of the White Stork
by
Florica Lorint
The mill of Moara is powered not by wind, but by storytelling. So long as the villagers surrounding the mill tell one another stories, the mill continues to work. When the mill unexpectedly stops, storytellers from across the land flock to Moara to see if their tale can turn the mill’s wings once again. None are successful, until a little boy calls a flock of storks down from the sky and a strange new storyteller joins him by the fire . . . Inspired by Romanian folklore, Tales of the White Stork is a collection of stories that touch on themes of courage, humility, and compassion.
Florica Lorint was born in Varfuri, Romania. From a young age she was fascinated with the fairytales her grandparents told in front of the fireplace on cold winter nights. She escaped from communist Romania in 1969, going to Belgium and later Canada, where she became a college professor. Florica is also the author of The Northern Men, From the History of an Empire, The Romanian Book of the Dead, The Aztecs, Tales of the Little Dwarf, and Pierre Belle Fleure, among others.
