Wally and his Puzzle Piece Friends
by Linda Manci

Join Wally on his exciting journey. Wally, the main character, is a robot with a disability. Each page is interactive with Wally asking the reader to find his friends in an interlocking puzzle collage. Wally’s friends also have disabilities and want to be understood and respected by the world. They express that it is ok to be considered “Different” and the word different means “Special”. Being “Special” makes their disability a “Super Power”. Although the characters have disabilities, they also have feelings, hopes, and fears like everyone else. This book allows children to be directly involved in the reading and therefore provides adults the opportunities to discuss disabilities and inclusion with children.

Linda lives in Suffolk, N.Y. with her family. Her son has special needs since birth. She has taken a theme that is close to her heart and turned it into an inclusive and interactive book. Linda works in the special needs community where she understands that patience and dignity are important to everyone. Her daughter is a strong advocate for her brother and recognizes that individuals with challenges need a supportive and loving family. Being the sister and parent of a special needs child involves struggles, and we all need to grow, adjust and adapt to a different lifestyle.
