Bunty and the Rainbow
by
Eve Buchwald
Bunty loves rainbows and hopes that today is the day she finds one! After waiting for the rain to stop, she’s finally able to begin her quest. But hunting for rainbows alone is no fun, so when Mr. Cameron says he doesn’t have time to take his dog, Gracie, out for a walk, Bunty happily offers to take Gracie along with her. As Bunty and Gracie spend the day together searching for a rainbow, and with some clever assistance from Gracie, Bunty finds herself offering help to Marcus and Paddy who have a dilemma at the park with their ball, and to her friend Sadie who is painting an entire doghouse all by herself! Unknown to Bunty, her kindness begins to radiate magnificent color that is magically felt by those she has helped. As Bunty and Gracie's rainbow search eventually comes to an end, Bunty returns home to discover that a rainbow can be found in the most unexpected place. Bunty and the Rainbow is a charming tale for children aged 4 to 7. Through vibrant illustrations and playful prose, it showcases how sometimes what you’re wishing for isn’t as important as what you give to others. Sometimes the journey truly is more enriching than the destination!
Bunty and the Rainbow is Eve's first published work and is dedicated to the loving memory of her mother, who left her own stream of kindness wherever she went. Eve wanted to capture that feeling of kindness, to put a visual quality to the essence of her mother's colorful energy. It was an energy that held a gentle yet powerful presence that exuded genuine love and compassion. Over the past few years the entire world has gone through an unprecedented event of our generation, one that has left us feeling a bit fragile and unsure of the future. It is Eve's hope that Bunty will inspire not just children, but those of all ages, to leave their own unique stream of color behind, a color that can bring such a significant and positive impact to others. We all carry beautiful color inside of us, but most are hesitant to share their rainbow, keeping it dormant and hidden away from others. Fear has kept us all estranged from one another, literally forcing us to physically distance from each other. There has been an entire generation of children greatly affected by this, their time to shine was quickly taken from them. But the rainbow has been patiently waiting for them to uncover it's magic and the time is now for them to bring some color back to the world! Eve has worked as an x-ray technologist specializing in mammography (breast imaging) for 32 years and learned early on in her career that simple acts of kindness, such as a gentle touch of the hand or a warm smile could ease her patients anxiety when dealing with breast cancer. With the loss of her own mother to breast cancer, Eve was saddened that her mother's kindness would no longer be felt by her loved ones, or to the strangers she would happily chat to throughout her day. But much to her amazement, Eve soon realized that her mother's kindness had not disappeared at all, it merely shifted and grew larger in the hearts of all she had loved in her lifetime. Kindness cannot be extinguished, but gathers great momentum if we allow our colors to shine! Eve lives in British Columbia, Canada with her husband Mark and their two cats, Zack and Chloe. She enjoys hiking, gardening, and her new found passion for story writing! Her happy place is at home with her husband and cats, and she is extremely grateful to be surrounded by her loving family and friends whose kindness is an inspiration to Eve every day.
