Star Born
by Dwight Chick

While on a diplomatic mission for her mother, The Queen of Liu, Princess Rianna’s convoy is ambushed by bandits but is saved by a mysterious thirteen-year-old boy named Duo. In gratitude for his help, Rianna takes him back home to the palace and the queen makes him a member of her Royal Guard. During his training, it’s revealed that there may be more to Duo than meets the eye. Not only does he have superhuman strength, he also has a superior intellect as well as unique abilities. He quickly rises through the ranks, heading up The Empire’s technological development and even siring Rianna’s heir in preparation for when she becomes queen. However, when her kingdom is faced with a potential alien attack, Rianna’s paranoia grows to the point that she begins to suspect everyone around her of betrayal, including Duo. As a result, he is forced to flee for his life. Hunted by those closest to him, Duo and his pursuers soon find themselves embroiled in a conflict that extends not just across their planet but throughout the galaxy. They must decide whether to stay and fight oppression at home or leave and help battle an even greater evil that is threatening to envelope the entire cosmos.

This story for Dwight Chick, also known as Sir Dwight the Knight, started as a simple little doodle he made in his notebook while in high school. For the next decade or so, the story grew in his mind until it could not be contained anymore and he finally decided to write it down as a way to organize his thoughts. Star Born is the first product of that process, with more books to come of the Beyond Known Universe series. When he’s not writing, Dwight enjoys playing video games, watching anime, and reading.
