Horace and Boris
by Ryan P. Groening

When Horace the horse meets a wily old elephant named Boris, and gets invited to visit Boris’ circus, which has just come to town, he’s very excited. For a single hoof-full of peanuts, he’ll get to see amazing acts and even more incredible creatures! And he’s not disappointed ... at least, not at first. Boris impresses both him and the crowd, as ringmaster and magician extraordinaire, but as the show goes on, Horace starts to realize that things aren’t quite what they seem ... and something needs to be done! With its rich and colourful illustrations, and a story that speaks to the importance of truth, fairness, and speaking out against wrongdoings, even as it tickles the funny bones of its readers, Horace and Boris is children’s entertainment at its best, suitable for boys and girls ages 3-7.

Author Ryan P. Groening has long been interested in fair practices, working as a longshoreman and union member for more than twenty years. With his experience as a facilitator, and a father, he felt it was important to use his creative voice to help children learn that it’s okay to speak up when something is wrong, and he hopes that Horace and Boris will teach them to do just that, even as it makes them laugh and smile. A practicing musician his entire adult life, Ryan has published over forty songs and compositions, and has played live for countless thousands over the course of his musical career. When not writing, working, or performing, he enjoys Daughter and Son camping and watching hockey in Maple Ridge, BC, where he lives with his wife, Megan, his son and daughter, Violet and Jaxson, and the family’s beloved dog, Melody.
