The Wishful Toy
by
Richard Crowley
What happens when a child outgrows a beloved toy? How can we spread joy to others? One lonely, wishful toy soon learns it can still bring love and laughter to a child’s life. For parents and educators: The Wishful Toy shows readers that sharing is important, and sharing with others who may be less fortunate is an important lesson to learn. Children will see that even though it’s sometimes difficult to let things go, especially toys that were once so meaningful, the joy they can bring others is something very special. In The Wishful Toy, children will read about kindness, the importance of sharing with others, and how recycling things that are still usable can make a big difference in another person’s life. Further ideas addressed include thinking beyond yourself, developing empathy, gaining social and life skills, and understanding that we can make a difference by helping each other.
"We live by each other and for each other. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller
Richard Crowley studied Social Science while obtaining his degree at the University of Western Ontario. Since then, he has worked with many individuals in the Deafblind field, and his eleven-plus years of experience in the field of Deafblindness and intervention have helped him identify strategies to help individuals with developmental disabilities learn to cope with experiences that may be difficult. The Wishful Toy was inspired by one of his clients, who taught him to never underestimate anyone’s abilities. Richard loves spending time with his dog, family and friends, playing board games, video games, hiking, music, and cooking. He lives in London, Ontario, with his partner and their Great Dane, Abby.
