Finding Home
by Jerry Murphy

Jack K. Mahon II, born and raised in a small farm town in Texas, has heard a stirring voice calling to him since childhood. Surrounded by strong women, Jack is attuned to deeper emotions with a quiet dignity and free spirit. His path leads him from Texas bars to the streets of Yokohama as a new recruit in the army, and then Hokkaido where he becomes the lover of three remarkable women in a high-end brothel. These independent women guide him further in the ways of love and inspire him to become a better man. Jack learns the art of love, martial arts, and works with the local community to save a young woman from exploitation. Through it all, he falls in love and realizes that he’s found the home he’s always been looking for.

“A resonant tale of a good-natured soldier who tries to save Japanese women in peril. Murphy, a poet, is a naturally gifted storyteller who excels at both seamless narration and crisp, believable characterization.” —Kirkus Reviews

Jerry H. Murphy lived in Japan in the early 1960s while enlisted in the US military. There he learned the virtues of Buddhism, one of the underlying themes of his book. Murphy has long wanted to bring the musings and observations from that era into a historical romance. Murphy is also a musician, has a degree in literature, and has written a chapbook of poetry. He lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
