Everyone Needs Care
by
Sherlyn Hu
Have you wondered what grownups do at work all day? Meet a personal support worker who is caring for different people living with dementia in our community. Dementia may affect how people experience and react to the world but it does not erase their experiences and feelings. Discover that caring takes many forms, even by connecting with someone in the moment, asking for help, and taking care of yourself. Everyone can care and, in fact, needs care.
Sherlyn Hu is a Chinese-Canadian social worker, educator and artist of immigrant background currently residing in Markham, Ontario. She is passionate about enabling people to discover our strengths (“we are good enough!”), embrace our flaws (“we are naturally imperfect!”), and connect with each other in nurturing ways (“we make things whole!”). She has published books and journal articles on the topics of health, mental health, and more. Sherlyn is the co-founder of a Canadian non-profit organization called BETWEEN Arts and Human Services. Her artwork has appeared in different spaces, including at the University of Toronto, the Toronto Transit Commission vehicles, and Canadian products.
