Expressions of the Heart
by Anthony Di Micco

The human heart has many facets. Complex yet simple, fragile yet robust, it can change the world with its unbridled passion or beat quietly in isolated grief. As individuals and as nations, we often fail to understand each other. But no matter who we are or where we come from, our hearts are the same, beating for the people we love and in spite of the many losses and hardships we face.

Our life experiences all leave their marks on us, for better or worse, and that is what the author explores in Expressions of the Heart: the joy, pain, and everything else that goes hand in hand with simply being human.

Beautifully crafted and thought-provoking, these poems are also highly relatable and unpretentious, meant for everyone to enjoy, whether they know a thing about poetry or not. Expressions of the heart speaks with the humble voice of one man, articulating the emotions of a lifetime for those who don’t have the words to do the same.

Anthony Di Micco was born in 1950 in the small town of Campodipietra, in the region of Molise, Italy. In 1957, as a small boy, he immigrated with his mother and younger brother to join his father in Canada. For two years, the family lived in Leamington, Ontario, before moving to Montreal, Quebec.

After acquiring a BA in Sociology from Loyola College, and a teaching degree at McGill University, he spent thirty-four years as an elementary school teacher before retiring, and now enjoys travelling and writing poetry.

Expressions of the Heart is the first of three published works, including Halloween and The Four Seasons: Beyond Autumn Leaves on the Other side of the Moon.
