The Family that Conquered Everest
by Alan Mallory

An awe-inspiring true story that takes the reader on a remarkable family journey from the flatlands of suburbia to the top of the world. Climbing Mount Everest is one of humanity's greatest feats of physical, emotional and psychological endurance. Alan Mallory and his family took on the challenge and became the first family of four to set foot on the summit of the world's highest peak. It was a two-month journey filled with emotion, loyalty, adventure and terror. From staggering across ladders spanning seemingly bottomless crevasses and fighting exhausting bouts of altitude-related sickness to climbing through a blizzard in the dead of night and almost losing two family members' lives, every segment of the climb was an exhilarating and unforgettable challenge. This particular expedition is a fantastic example of the importance of strong family values and maintaining a deep level of trust between team members. The story highlights many of the background experiences and adventures that prepared the Mallorys to take on such a challenge, and explores the key traits that are essential for a safe and successful outcome to any team endeavour.

Alan Mallory is an international speaker, author and performance coach who is passionate about reaching new heights in all that we do. He has a degree in Engineering from Queen's University and a Masters in Psychology from Adler University, giving him a well-balanced approach to the inner and outer challenges we all face throughout life. In addition to this book, Alan is the author of Summits of Self: The Seven Peaks of Personal Growth, which focuses on improving psychological wellbeing through small, incremental changes in the way we think and the actions we take. Prior to his speaking career, Alan worked all over the world as a mechanical engineer and project manager developing patents and solutions in the mining and metals industry, but his true passion is in working with people as a catalyst for bringing about positive change. In his free time, Alan loves to travel and explore new places with his family and friends. He is an avid adventurer and enjoys many different activities although his favourites are those spent out in the wilderness and those that involve strategy and problem solving. Building experience through a lifestyle of adventure and challenge, Alan embarked on the journey of a lifetime and set a world record on Mount Everest along with three members of his immediate family. It was a two-month expedition through some of the most exciting yet terrifying conditions imaginable and their success demanded an unwavering perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. As a prominent speaker at conferences and conventions, Alan delivers a number of exciting presentations and training programs that are all about embracing and working through adversity, as well as exploring the skills and mindsets that allow great leaders and committed teams to achieve breakthrough performance.
