Filled with close calls and lots of luck, these stories are cast upon the wild backdrop of British Columbia, Canada, pursuing moose, caribou, grizzly bears, sheep, mountain goats, cougars and more. Travelling on foot, on horseback, or even by quad, following animal trails, creeks and rivers, Smith’s work depicts the adventure behind each kill.

Dawson Smith has been a hunter for over fifty years, having hunted all over the world. Throughout his travels, Smith has found British Columbia to be the go-to location for the prime hunting experience. And he’s learned that the perfect hunt is achieved through a balance of both luck and risk. Tales from the Trail is Smith’s first collection, detailing such experiences. Smith lives on a horse farm in Prince George, British Columbia with his partner, Sandra; five horses; and three Great Danes.
