The Collaborative Path
6 Steps for Better Communication, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making
by
Patrick Aylward
This book presents a simple six step model that anyone can incorporate anywhere for better communication, problem-solving and decision-making. This ground-breaking approach promises to reduce tension and conflict wherever it’s employed. The Collaborative Path has the potential to create important and far-reaching societal change.
"A punchy and readable “journey from ignorance to integration” focusing on conflict resolution." —Kirkus Reviews “The Collaborative Path is an insightful and rigorous treatment of the key relationships any organization should nurture to succeed. Recommended reading for current and future leaders.” —Michael Wernick, former Clerk of the Privy Council of Canada “I definitely think this is one book that should be in my everyday life and I think not only for the everyday person, but it’s definitely a valuable resource in every workplace. Heck...even therapists’ offices. Very easy read!! It gave a whole lot of clarity to situation/circumstances I was in and I even took the time to think of the past relationships. Apart from the learning, I like a simple read...it was enough to make me think, but enough to make me continue reading (which is a huge plus in my world.) I think this is THE book that I will always at some point or another make reference to!” —Jen M., Front Line Customer Service Worker “In a world where polarization of people and politics is at epidemic levels, The Collaborative Path is a master work that should be required reading for every adult. Patrick provides a path for realizing the exponential benefits of diversity through collaboration. His math makes sense: where ‘Conflict = Problem + Tension’ and ‘Collaboration = Better Solutions + Stronger Relationships’, a flip of mindset to collaboration necessarily pre-empts conflict. Most importantly - Patrick provides a simple model and tangible tools for making the flip.” —Doug Hall, Best Selling Author, Chairman & Founder of The Eureka! Ranch™.
Patrick describes himself as a “recovering lawyer.” His career has included being a litigation lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, policy analyst, project manager and conflict management consultant. After an extensive private sector career, Patrick worked with several departments in the Canadian federal government. In addition, he has volunteered in many capacities. Working in so many roles across sectors, Patrick has forged strong relationships and connected people and groups across spheres of involvement and platforms of change. His passion lies in the enhancement of relationships and problem-solving. In his spare time, living by the ocean on Prince Edward Island, Patrick embraces a healthy, active lifestyle and has begun work on The Collaborator’s Toolbox as a companion to this book.
