Why is "limerick" spelled incorrectly in this book?
by Donald B. Owen

This book has over 650 limericks, best described this way...Perchance, might you find time to peruse / my book of lim-ricks while on your cruise? / Most are clean…none obscene. / Most are gentle…none mean… / and all are intended to amuse. The word “limerick” is purposely spelled incorrectly and you will discover why in Chapter 1...”The Anatomy of a Lim-rick”. Other chapters bear names like... (2) Lawyers; (3) Death & Dying; (3) Animals; (4) “Sandusky-gate”; (5) Geriatrics; (6) Irish Culture; (7) Politics & Historical Events; (8) 50’s and 60’s music; (9) Food Prep & Menus; (10) Adventures of Jack & Jill; (11) A Farewell Roast & Toast; (12) Honoring the Twelve Months-of the-Year; (13) Lim-ricks that Ask Questions; (14) The Three R’s; (15) Flotsam & Jetsam; and (16) Miscellaneous. The (almost) 150 lim-ricks, in the last two mentioned chapters, defy easy categorization. Here are some examples...Past performance is no guarantee / of future reliability. / Since his escapade / in his Escalade / Tiger’s had no “MAJOR” victory. I suffer from chronic repition / trying to maser basic diction. If I had a hammer /I’d destroy my stammer / and be free to speak without friction.

Don Owen was born in a log cabin, furnished with a manger, in Brooklyn. New York in 1942. This book allows him to add “published author” to his resume’...not that he’s still looking for a job! At age four, his parents moved to Lindenhurst, a town about 35 miles east of Brooklyn, on Long Island. He graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 1963. He went to law school (Dickinson, in Carlisle, PA ) in 1968, after two years as an officer in the US Army and three years teaching American government and English at Easton Area High School. After graduating from law school in 1971, he worked briefly for a law firm in Harrisburg, PA and then went into a solo practice of law in the Harrisburg area. Don likes to refer to himself as “I’m not a lawyer who was once just a teacher, but a teacher, who just decided to go to law school.” In 1980, he began a 23 year career, working for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, as a “teaching” attorney and Director of Board Development. He has two sons, both of whom live and work in the Harrisburg PA area. Beginning in 2003, Don and his life partner, Eileen,...(see Chapter 22)...spent several years “touring” the country in their Winnebago. Don continued to teach school law workshops at many state and national conventions, as well as teach semester-long, post-graduate classes, in school law. In 2012, they moved to Tucson, AZ.
