The Lights of Diwali
by
Carol M. Hansen
A young family in India is about to celebrate Diwali, the ancient Hindu festival of lights, in contemporary times. In Lights of Diwali the author has taken one of the ancient world’s epic stories The Ramayana and recapped it for a new generation of young readers. It is a gem for young children, from all backgrounds, to learn about the nation’s culture and traditions for it is told through the eyes of a child who holds a deep reverence for the goddess Lakshmi.
Teacher, author, humanitarian best describes Carol M. Hansen. Having lived and studied in India, Lights of Diwali reflects her intent to honor and share ancient customs. Hansen holds a Master’s degree in South Asian Studies and has traveled to India six times to enhance her research to write this book. She currently resides in Madison, Wisconsin.
