This is a story of love, hate, lust, humor and longing in the time of war. When Jack Defurio, an educated 26 year old Mexican-American, newly married to Donna, is drafted and sent to Vietnam as an infantryman he must cope with the excruciating separation from her, the rigors of jungle warfare and his increasing revulsion for the Army.
Joseph E. Barrera was born in Fresno, California. He is a graduate of Fresno State University and attended Hastings and Lincoln colleges school of law. He married Donna Bramblett in 1967. She died in August, 2009 after a prolonged illness. The author was drafted into the Army in July, 1968 and honorably discharged in April, 1970. He is a retired probation officer and continues to reside in the Fresno area. He is the author of “The Elfin Bell”, “The Headless Wolf ”, “ The Polish Cavalier”, and “ Brownylocks And The Two Coyotes”, all of which are children’s books.
