How the Butterfly Got Her Colours
by Jade A. Blayk

In a nearby forest, there lives a butterfly with bright white wings. While those around her think she is beautiful, the butterfly does not feel beautiful. All day she admires the colours of the flowers, the grass, and the other animals, longing to share those beautiful colours on her wings. One day, when a storm sets in, the butterfly’s friends find themselves in danger. The butterfly rushes to save them, her white wings visible in the flashes of lightening. The storm clears to reveal a rainbow, and the butterfly flies toward it, enticed by its beautiful colours. But the storm has not entirely passed, and the butterfly is struck by a raindrop that sends her tumbling to the ground. It is now up to the butterfly’s friends to save her. How the Butterfly Got Her Colours is an interactive children’s book meant to teach young readers that beauty is about more than our outward appearance. Through lessons in self-expression and self-acceptance, author Jade A. Blayk encourages young readers to embrace what makes them beautiful.

The author is, first and foremost, a mother of three strong and beautiful children. The idea for this book first came up when the oldest was bullied at school for simply being unique. Dress-up and cosplay was a common occurrence in the household but it wasn’t really accepted outside the house. Still, none the less, self expression was encouraged and soon all three discovered who they were and this author couldn’t be more proud. *Just a little note. One of my favourite quotes. When you feel like you are in a tight spot; a bit of a rough choice, just remember these words. *Don’t play near the Dragon’s Den for you are crunchy and good with Ketchup*
