Tangled Threads of War
by Maureen Murphy

The shadow of the Second World War is cast across Alsace, France, and the Ulrich family has been scattered to the winds. Cecilia, fresh out of school and starting an apprenticeship in Strasbourg, finds herself helping the Resistance with her mentor while balancing the attentions of an admittedly handsome Nazi officer. With one brother a refugee in England and another scouting for the Maquis, Cecilia desperately tries to keep track of the people she loves as she and her family discover how complicated the brutalities of war are about to make their lives. Even if all of them make it home, somehow, to sit around the same kitchen table, how can anything ever be the same again? Tangled Threads of War offers an intricate web of innocence and pain, of loss, despair, and love, winding its way through a world-shaking disaster that will echo for generations after the last bombs have been dropped.

Maureen Murphy, after forty years in Cytology, was inspired to explore her creative side. She completed the Creative Writing certificate from Western University and other writing workshops. She found the spark of inspiration in letters written by her father during WWII and in the story of her mother, a war bride. Prompt became passion, as she says, and the rest is history. When Maureen is not reading or travelling she likes to golf, line dance, write poetry and memoir, go to the theatre, and spend time with her grandchildren. Maureen lives in London, Ontario, Canada with her husband.
