Blue Grey
by Laura Soriano

While navigating life in her new home, and the cold world of science and engineering, a young Maya Castro faces the challenges of social marginalization, gender inequality, addiction, and sexual confusion. An immigrant to Canada from Latin America, Maya desires to bring a new, more spiritual perspective to her chosen career—but the forces working against her seem almost impossible to overcome. To survive professionally and personally, she will need to draw on all of her internal resources. Blue Grey raises awareness about a variety of timely and society-defining issues, such as the role of empathy in industry, the importance of human connection, and the suffering of people struggling with their mental health. Laura Soriano challenges traditional notions of professionalism in academia, inviting readers to consider what might emerge when courage, care, and creativity are allowed to shape the future of knowledge. Both provocative and reflective, Blue Grey is a powerful call to reimagine not only education and industry—but the human spirit behind them.
