Marlee Mallard Keeps Her Home
by M. A. Enniss-Trotman

Marlee the mallard duck is sitting on her eggs when she hears a terrible noise: humans are cutting down the nearby trees. It’s only a matter of time before they reach her nest. Crane suggests she fight back, but Marlee is afraid. Peggy, her best friend, doesn’t know what to do either. Marlee is just a little duck. How can she possibly stand up to the humans? But if she doesn’t… What will become of her ducklings and her forest home? With the effects of climate change growing around the world, and both urban and housing development constantly on the rise, it’s more important than ever to teach children about the need to protect nature. Marlee Mallard Keeps Her Home trains the next generation to be good stewards of the Earth by showing them that even the smallest voices can help save our planet. This book underscores the themes of loyalty, determination, and the power of collective action.

M. A. Enniss-Trotman is the author of I Remember That: A Collection of Cherished, Unforgettable, and Lasting Memories (2017). A former university professor who taught various economics courses for over a decade, she has always been focused on interdisciplinary approaches to economic growth and development, including how to balance those disciplines with environmental protection. She was inspired to write her first children’s book to sensitize children to nature’s plight. When she’s not writing, Enniss-Trotman volunteers at a community health board and food bank, which advocate for health and wellness and food security, respectively. Enniss-Trotman lives in Nova Scotia, near the Little Sackville River, with her husband.
