Energy Diversity for Carbon Neutrality
A Sustainable Strategy for Net- Zero
by
Alaa Kafafi
We are currently experiencing the greatest change in the economy since the industrial revolution: the transition to net-zero emissions. The book aims to educate professionals, industries and consumers on the diverse energy mix needed for power generation. This mix must meet the growing demand for energy, protect the climate and promote economic growth by making energy affordable for both households and businesses. Kafafi discusses three main issues: high carbon emissions, energy supply shortages and high costs, as well as the importance of all stakeholders contributing to the energy transition strategy. He argues that a diverse energy mix including renewables, natural gas plants and advanced nuclear reactors, is essential for both energy security and climate health. Encouraging industries to improve energy efficiency through emissions taxes and educating customers on energy conservation will accelerate this transition. Additionally, a modern power grid is crucial for the success of this shift towards a green economy, and innovations are expected to reduce the cost of expensive carbon capture technologies.
Alaa Kafafi (M. Eng. ME & BEng. ME), a former executive in the oil and gas industry, was responsible for developing and managing environmental and quality management systems. With over 30 years of experience, he has been committed to reducing the carbon footprint of oil and gas companies. Alaa is a strong advocate for energy transition to Net-Zero emissions and actively contributes as a writer on energy topics for American engineering magazines such as Industrial and System Engineering, Industrial Management, and Quality Progress. Alaa resides in Vancouver, BC with his wife, Kawkab. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Together, they enjoy nature-related hobbies such as camping and hiking.
