The Adjusters
by Alison Golosky

Edmonton, 1995. Thirty-year-old Derek is dedicated to his top-secret career, which grants him the ability to view parallel versions of Earth, each incapable of supporting human life—or so he is told. He spends his days monitoring robotic units, called Adjusters, who are specifically designed to perform tasks in these empty realms. Derek's other-worldly occupation does not exempt him from real-world problems, however. His boorish brother, his flirtatious sister-in-law, and the unattainable love of his life each pose their own challenges. His career is the one area in which he feels complete control, until the day he makes an impossible discovery—seven humans are seemingly trapped in one of the parallel worlds. Desperate to learn who they are and how they got there, Derek discovers a way to reach them. In his attempt to rescue these people (one of whom may not be human at all) Derek soon finds himself fighting for his sanity . . . and his life.
