Willow's Worries
by
Katrina Humphreys
This is the story of how Willow discovered her worries...and overcame them! Willow loves to play soccer—until a dog scares her at the beach. Now, when she heads to the soccer field, Willow's worries take over. What if there’s a dog at the park? What if it jumps on her? Willow is determined not to let fear get in her way—but can she stand up to her worries, and not let them ruin the game she loves so much? Willow’s Worries is a light-hearted story about a difficult situation. For kids, it helps them see that they’re not alone—that other children go through the same thing. For parents and caregivers, it opens the door to talk about fear and anxiety. The book helps children learn to recognize what anxiety feels like while providing simple and practical strategies for dealing with worries. Kids will learn to build personal confidence and independent mental strength right alongside Willow herself.
Katrina Humphreys has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Photography, from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She has worked with young children, teaching them art and photography at her local community centres. When someone close to Katrina dealt with anxiety, she helped them work through it. Katrina was inspired to write this book to help children with anxiety feel comforted and their parents feel supported in guiding their children through fear and anxiety. When not taking photographs and writing, Katrina loves running and spending time outdoors with her family, especially on a lake or at the ocean. She lives in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, with her husband and their two daughters.
