Jemma's Great Adventure
by Julia Greco

Jemma was a rock. Jemma was sad. Jemma was angry about being a rock. On a quarry sits a dejected young rock. Jemma thinks she’s boring and ordinary. Why can’t she be special? Hootie, the Great Grey Owl, knows that it’s not much fun not liking yourself—perhaps a flying tour around the world will help? From the immensity of the Great Wall of China to the marble splendour of the Taj Mahal and beyond, Jemma discovers all kinds of fascinating facts about rocks and the important place they have in history. Will this great adventure change the way Jemma thinks and feels about herself? Jemma's Great Adventure is a whirlwind journey of discovery, learning, and self-love. Illustrated in vibrant colour throughout, it will appeal to children ages five and older, encouraging them to explore more about themselves as well as the wonders and cultures of the world.

Jemma goes on a global journey and discovers her self-worth. This book provides many teachable moments as it provokes deep thought and conversation about the wonders of the world and the wonders of oneself. Discussion prompts and activities can be used for guided and shared reading lessons. A beautiful exploration of empathy and kindness for all audiences. - Anne Marie Sisti, Teacher-Librarian (retired)
