A Prairie Girl and a Gopher
Prairie Kids' Adventures
by Elizabeth Godkin

How did Katelyn, a prairie girl, and Gus, a "gopher", become friends? Throughout the pages of this beautifully illustrated story, see a glimpse into the life of a Canadian prairie child. Learn about the Richardson Ground Squirrel. Search and find, on each delightful page, some of our Canadian wildlife as described after the story. From insects to birds, you will learn and enjoy a nostalgic look at the beauty our wonderful country has to offer.

About the Author: Elizabeth Godkin is a child of the Canadian Prairie. She grew up on a mixed grain and cattle farm by the Village of Arrowwood and married a farmer who was just around the corner by the Village of Milo. Elizabeth worked in the local school as a teachers' assistant for years, as well as for the area's family literacy program. She continues to farm with her husband and son. This story takes place on the farm where her father grew up and where her sister now lives. Keeping it all in the family, Katelyn is Elizabeth's great niece and Heather, the illustrator, is Katelyn's mom. About the Illustrator: Heather Leibel is a graduate of the University of Alberta where she studied entomology. She loves painting, nature, and including what she studied in her pictures. Heather also grew up on the prairies and loves bringing her two children and husband to visit her childhood home. They visit with Grandpa and Grandma, cousins, aunts and uncles, the dogs, cats, sheep, cows, and love watching all the prairie animals.
