We Were All Babies Once
by
Jana Plavuchova
How would you feel about the people you come across if you imagined them as the babies they once were? On Wednesdays, Lou and her mother spend their day together exploring the town. But this week, Lou is hesitant. There are so many people out in the world, and she doesn’t know any of them. Sensing her uncertainty, Lou’s mom asks her a simple question: “Do you know we were all babies once?” Imagining everyone as babies helps Lou relate to the people she meets. And when she begins to see everyone as a baby, she starts to learn important lessons about our shared humanity, and just what it means to live in a big, diverse world.
Jana Plavuchova is inspired daily to see the common humanity in us all. She lives in Nelson, B.C., with her partner and daughter.
