I am Beautiful...And I Know it
by Sophie Lazarou and Angie Mackie

I am Beautiful…and I Know it is an adaptation of Sophie’s best-selling book Beautiful Brilliant and Brave. A children’s book serving to teach and support children, and their families. Through the use of positive and playful messages, a book filled with meaningful rhymes with the purpose to build confidence and resilience within our young and those we influence and mentor. Through magical illustrations and age appropriate words, we outline real beauty, not some socially constructed ideal of it. Because real beauty is an inside job. Beauty is more about who you are, not what shoes you wear or the colour of your hair.

Sophie is a certified professional Life Coach and makes it her business to empower young girls and women, support and teach effective parenting strategies, and help couples and families build functional and positive homes. www.lifecoachingsophielazarou.com Angie Mackie is a nurse, the mother of three daughters and two girl cats, an avid outdoors woman and a poet at heart. She was thrilled to have the chance to collaborate with Sophie on this children’s book after having helped edit Beautiful Brilliant and Brave. Having three daughters, she especially understands how important the message that “beauty is an inside job” is for all of us, but even more so for young girls. Her hope is that this message is prevalent for all children, starting at a young age, and continues throughout life. What matters is on the inside. Lara Mackie is a new elementary school teacher, a student at heart and an impulsive crafter! As a young adult, Lara has explored many avenues that lead her to her goal of inspiring wonder in small children including facilitating in a museum and a science centre, as well as scouring the archives for research on breast cancer in Nairobi, Kenya. Involved in a social justice cohort during her Master of Teaching and facilitating a Girls In-STEAM event, Lara is excited to help give a voice to those who have gone unheard. It has been a life-long dream for Lara to illustrate a children’s book, since they are one of the most powerful learning tools we can give to our tiny humans. Let’s create a community filled with self-love and individuals who lift each other up!
