Searching for Mindfulness
by
Veronica Kusiak
Sherwood is a carefree squirrel, spending his days gathering nuts in the forest. One day, his carelessness puts him in danger and he realizes he must learn to pay attention. His friend Terry says he should practice Mindfulness so that he can be aware of his surroundings. But what is Mindfulness and how can Sherwood find it? Sherwood asks his forest friends to help him but they each give a different answer. Bear says Mindfulness is the sweet smell of honey, Rabbit says Mindfulness is the taste of a fresh carrot, and Bat says Mindfulness is the sound of the night. With all these different answers, Sherwood is beginning to think he’ll need to find out what Mindfulness means to him. Searching for Mindfulness will help children learn to explore their five senses to find their inner peace and calm, while improving their awareness of the world around them.
Veronica Kusiak has a degree in Psychology and Social Work. She works as a therapist with children in a mental health practice and teaches Mindfulness as a coping tool. Veronica lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband and children. Searching for Mindfulness is her first book.
