The Land Our Fathers Saw
A Pictorial History By E.F. Hagell
by Wilma Wood

The Land Our Fathers Saw reveals the Hagell Heritage Collection held by the Galt Museum and Archives in the City of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. In 1960, upon the request of the Lethbridge Historical Society, the City purchased the collection from Hagell to illustrate the prairie conditions of the settlers who homesteaded in southern Alberta in the early 1900s.

It is the third book in a series of three which has been written by the author about the southern Alberta artist. Hagell's art is in the western tradition of Fredric Remington and Charles Russell. The 68 ink and crayon drawings present his view of the prairie landscape from the 1800s to the 1950s.

Wilma Wood is a former curator and CEO of the Sir Alexander Galt and Archives. While there she curated an exhibition of the Hagell Heritage Collection, inspiring her to research the life of the southern Alberta artist Edward Frederick Hagell. This book is the third in a series which commemorate the artist.

The E.F. Hagell Trust was established to accept royalties of this book. It will fund the conservation of the Hagell works and tools and other projects. You can participate in the Trust by offering a donation to the Galt Museum and Archives, Lethbridge, Alberta. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
