Emergency Medicine
Surviving the Chaos
by Dale M. Bayliss

The discipline of medicine has been around since Hippocrates’ time. But the art and science of providing emergency care is constantly evolving, as shown by this book packed with the wisdom and experience Dale M. Bayliss has gleaned in his work as a paramedic and registered nurse. Emergency Medicine: Surviving the Chaos is his first-hand perspective of supplying medical interventions on the frontlines in Alberta, Canada, for four decades. Often one of the leaders on many situations willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need of medical care. There are no golden rules, textbook answers, or magic bullets when it comes to saving a life. Instead, care, compassion, gut instinct, a deep and unwavering belief in team-work are Bayliss’s go-to solutions. With real-life examples of life-saving techniques, personal anecdotes, and sound advice, Emergency Medicine will give readers a newfound appreciation for the rigours of working in with emergency medicine from multiple perspectives.

The Emergency Medical team is one friend that will stand strong for everyone that needs medical care. Many staff won’t have known you before today, but they will make your hospital stay their only concern. They will fight for you when others may have lost hope. Often one member of the team will show you that you truly matter even when others will not. Once you have one person on your side you then get the rest of the team at your side. They will then have your back no matter what. Don’t ever lose hope in life and living. You really do matter.

Over the decades, Dale M. Bayliss has worked in multiple roles in both urban and rural hospitals, as well as remote healthcare centres. His career spans 40 years as an advanced care paramedic and 32 years as a registered nurse. Bayliss’s constant companions over the years were his beloved companion dogs, Pebbles, Tinsel, Jack and now my sole loyal Ember the Wolf / Fuzzy the cat. Dale M. Bayliss lives in Alberta.
