Grit and Grace
A Women Writing Anthology
by Shanda Blue Easterday

From acclaimed members of the Writing Women project from northern Indiana and southern Michigan comes this diverse and inspiring collection of poems, fiction, and personal essays. The poignant voices of Grit and Grace explore issues of religious belief, philosophy, women's grace under fire, young people overcoming challenges, and survivors of discrimination and civil war. Thoughtful, wise, and entertaining, this courageous anthology offers its readers a momentary respite from the cacophony of life.

Women Writing is a writing group of authors living in southern Michigan and northern Indiana. We began meeting at the Open Door Gallery in Sturgis, MI, met a few times at Great Lakes Chocolate and Coffee for obvious reasons then settled on meeting in members' homes. We still consider ourselves affiliated with the Gallery in Sturgis. All the authors were previously published and producing new work, so we decided to publish a collection of our own new work and include several additional friends who write poetry across the United States. This collection includes, in addition to poetry, short stories, essays, and spiritual encouragement. Adults of all ages will find something wonderful within.

The featured writers of Grit and Grace live in Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, and Indiana. They have widely varied interests, but each one is focused on writing and publishing as a vocation in her own genre. Several of the authors featured have received awards and published previous books. Contributing editor Shanda Blue Easterday MFA, PhD, is a college professor of Literatures in English. Her poetry has been published in the U.S. and England, and she helps lead Women Writing as an outreach to her regional community of writers. She was managing editor of Third Coast Literary Review from 2000-2002 and continues as an editor to Mind Vine Press.
