About the Author Roger Chambers, registered nurse, shortwave radio DXer, birder, gardener, poet, and musician. Salina High School South, Salina, Kansas, Class of 1971; Mohawk Valley Community College, 1979; a nurse with over forty years’ experience in long-term health care. He is curious in travel and natural sciences, and a lifelong student of languages, especially Spanish, and more recently Swedish, useful in tracing Swedish ancestry. The Mohawk Valley Almanac (http://www.mohawkvalleyalmanac.com) is a web site featuring regional festivals and the natural world of the Mohawk Valley of upstate New York. About the Photographer Joyce Chambers is a registered nurse, a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, with over twenty years’ experience in longterm health care. A native Utican, she took the photos in this book not taken by the author. She is interested in photography, especially of the many birds that come to year-round bird feeders and those seen at area wetlands. Recently she has become very interested in genealogy, siscovering roots in Chateaugay, New York; Quebec; and Germany. Joyce and Roger are married, have two adult sons and two grandchildren, and live in Utica, New York. About the Poet George R. Romano, educator, botanist, and linguist. Utica Free Academy, Class of 1949; BA in Botany, Utica College; MS, Syracuse; attended Urbana; St. Louis University; forever an educator in varied venues including Utica Community Action and Utica School of Commerce. Forever a student of botany, Latin, Spanish, and the human condition.
