What would it be like to live in a beautiful beach town surrounded by the wonders of nature? Open this book and find out! In three English and Spanish stories about San Clemente, Ecuador, 12-year-old Kristin describes traditional ways of life in her beloved hometown—fishing, farming, and salt harvesting. Enhanced by her own illustrations (completed when she was just 10 years old), these portraits of hard workers shed light on a place brimming with its own special magic. Read Little Beach Town Stories to enhance your language skills, learn more about the world, or gain inspiration for your own artistic efforts. The possibilities are endless!
This is a book that was born due to circumstances. One María and Kristine living in San Clemente, and the eagerness of a man that supported the creation of Atarrya Communitary Library. This place has gather several talented people from a little town in Manabí Province - Ecuador. In San Clemente are conjugated the sea and the land, the agriculture, salt mine, fishing, and also the modernity approaching with big steps. In this scenario Kristine, with a vivid imagination, is painting with different materials on any surface. María, her mom, has provided her paper, card board, the walls of her house, to put in this reality what she sees in her mind. She lives to paint, her curiosity takes her to research and learn from the world surrounding her. She has the gift of having a mom that encourage her to grow and dream. That's what we want to promote at Atarraya Communitary Library, to have more kids like her creating, learning, and growing beyond the limits of the community, and then they will feed the community back with them talents.
Kristín Juliette Loor Barcia has a passion for drawing and her home of San Clemente. Supported by her mother, María, she was inspired to write and illustrate a book about their incredible community. Together, they have created a space at the Atarraya Community Library for other kids to join them working on handcrafts. Kristin and her mother live with the rest of their family, along with a dog and a cat, in the La Perla neighbourhood of San Clemente.
