A Touch of Jazz
Celebrating Food, Family & Love with a Gourmet Flair
by Jazzmyne Buckels

For Jazzmyne Buckels, AKA Gourmet Mommie, food means family. Growing up between Evanston, Illinois and Southern Louisiana, she learned how to marry classic Southern flavors with the warmth of Northern influences—all under the loving guidance of her mother, grandmothers and aunts. Now, in A Touch of Jazz, she brings those influences together, giving a glimpse into family traditions and the lessons passed down through generations. In this warm, empowering guide for cooks of every skill level, you’ll find recipes for roux and rib tips, hushpuppies and banana pudding—all the wholesome, comforting foods that keep families coming back for more. Accessible gourmet dishes, complete meal plans, kid-friendly recipes, and allergy-friendly alternatives make for a comprehensive resource, while short, meaningful stories transform recipes into a celebration of culture and connection. Using everyday ingredients to create beautiful, delicious meals, this cookbook shows that anyone can cook: all you need is A Touch of Jazz.

Jazzmyne Buckels is a wife, busy mom of two, and biomedical engineer. At age 11, she started helping her mother in the kitchen, and has since cooked her way through celebrations, grief, daily dinners, church groups, and late-night cravings. This book grew out of her lived experience feeding her family and friends with joy and purpose, and helping others do the same through her content, mini cooking demos, and online platforms as “Gourmet Mommie.” She lives in Texas with her husband and their two children.
