The History of Lucasville 1827-1970
Based on the August 2, 1827, Deeds of James Edward Lucas and Moses Oliver

Emily Hillman
Based on the August 2, 1827 deeds of James Edward Lucas and Moses Oliver an account of the community of Lucasville, originally Lucas Settlement, has been researched from 1827-1970. Lucasville, is an historical black community that is in between the 2 nearby historical black communities of Upper Hammonds Plains and Maroon Hill. Other than some oral stories, church, cemetery, marriage and news paper articles significant historical accounts of Lucasville were only found in the Nova Scotia Archives or local museums. Part of the purpose of this book is to get an accurate account of Lucasville's origin and history over the almost 200 years. Through the funding contributions of the Lucasville Greenway Society (LGS) a non- profit organization we were able to hire 2 researchers to compile historical data enough to form this book for publication and reading.
Co-authors Raquel Silva and Emily Hillman are both university graduates and do historical research for organizations, some non-profits. The Lucasville Greenway Society (LGS), a non-profit organization contracted researcher Raquel Silva for phase one of the research on the Lucasville community and then the LGS contracted researcher Emily Hillman for phases two and three for the continued research on the community of Lucasville from 1827-1970. The result of their research is this book submission to FriesenPress.
