White Space, Gray Areas & Black Swans
stories of getting along (or not)
by Donna M. Henningson

White Space, Gray Area, and Black Swan have two questions on their minds: How do people get into conflict? And how do we get out? With as many different types of conflict as there are people in the world, the threesome have their hands full in trying to find satisfactory answers. Their quest to more effectively transform conflict takes them to different time periods and different places from an isolated Himalayan village to a principal and teacher disagreeing about leadership styles, and even an exploration into the Beatles’ career. Each story brings a different conflict to the table, and each story has its own unique resolution. Compassionate and full of energy, White Space, Gray Areas & Black Swans shows us just how common conflict is and how people can always find their way back to harmony, or can they?

"Donna Henningson offers us a highly creative and original way to think and dream about conflict. She kept me guessing and engaged all along the learning journey." —Matthew Legge, author of award-winner Are We Done Fighting? Building Understanding in a World of Hate and Division

Donna M. Henningson is a high school teacher on a writing break, a vocal ensemble alto, and a former dragon boat coach. Like everyone, she has had her fair share of working through conflicts in different environments; she taught high school English overseas in China just as COVID-19 hit. Before then, she worked with non-profit groups, and also was a full-time community print journalist. She has an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Gonzaga University, and a journalism certificate from the Langara campus in Vancouver. She currently lives in Summerland, British Columbia, on the unceded traditional territory of the Okanagan Nation Syilx people, for which she is grateful.
