It covers first of all the basics like materials, color theory and composition and design. It then discusses the different techniques to paint in acrylics followed by examples and exercises. The reader is encouraged to try them to see what particular approach may appeal. Technique and style have to be learned and practised. The emphasis of the book is, however, on the simple planning required to get the great results and success desired, no matter the technique or style. The author advocates having a plan! This book is for beginners and artists who have done some painting but are ready to get serious about their passion. To improve skills and find joy in a successful painting, the author suggests to follow along and review the basics followed by the important practice of having a plan. A professional artist for 30 years, Karin’s diverse work has been featured in exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally. Sharing her knowledge of painting has been a joy to Karin for many years. She is an enthusiastic art instructor to many aspiring artists in classes and workshops across Canada. She has become known as the traveling artist and leads groups on painting holidays on land and at sea in Canada and Europe. She is a sought-after juror, critic and organizer of art events. An elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA), the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA-Hon.) and Pastel Artists Canada with a Master and Eminent Pastelist designation (MPAC-EP), Karin has received many awards including the Immigrant of Distinction Award in 2010 for her contributions to the arts community. She is the author of “Make Your Mark in Pastels”, an instructional book. Her work and writing have appeared in several art publications.
