The purpose of Art Therapy is to create an oasis of time to allow the brain and body to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate itself, while exploring the creative process of manipulating design elements such as line, shape, form, space, texture, tone, and color. Art Therapy can help people express themselves more freely, improve their mental health, and improve interpersonal relationships. The basis of Art Therapy is established on the idea that people can recover and feel better via artistic expression. There is increasing evidence in rehabilitation medicine and the field of neuroscience that art enhances brain function by impacting brain wave patterns, emotions and the nervous system. Art can also raise serotonin levels. These benefits don’t just come from making art, they also occur by experiencing art. As an Art Facilitator, I have thoroughly tested all the activities in this book over many years and with a variety of people. Many activities are structured to encourage team work, problem solving and communication as well as individual creativity in a relaxed, social environment. I was always surprised and impressed at the results. While each activity focuses on one of the main categories (brain, senses, memory, teamwork and loss) all of them involve a number of skills. The results can be different with each new group and even when presented to the same group again.
For more than two hundred years, the township of Mink Hills, Manitoba, has been embroiled in a secret war with an enemy profoundly suited to the shadows. Legend has it that werewolves roam the woods outside of town, responsible for the abduction of local children—a few from each generation. Of course, that’s nonsense. Surely, whatever monster is responsible for taking these children is merely human, though clearly lacking in humanity. But when the son of RCMP Detective Marcus Pope is abducted, along with two other children, and the desperate search takes him and his fellow officers deep into the woods, the werewolf legend becomes an undeniable reality in a vicious attack that leaves officers down and the survivors questioning everything they had ever believed. Enlisting the help of fellow detective Morgan Heart, as well as an ancient werewolf who had been turned against his will centuries earlier, Marcus vows to put an end to the wolf pack’s persistent and pernicious evil and seek justice for everything they’d taken from the people of Mink Hills, and from himself.
Fenn is a small brown bear who lives in a charming forest with all of his bear friends. One day, when Fenn is learning to roar, he discovers a shocking secret about himself—there’s a blue patch on his fluffy brown fur! Not wanting to be different from all of his friends, Fenn learns to hide his blue. As the blue patch grows bigger and bigger, Fenn faces a tough choice: should he reveal his blueness to his friends, and trust that they will love him for who he is? Or should he keep pretending to be just like everyone else? As children grow and discover who they are, they often grapple with identity and self-acceptance. Fenn's Giant Blue Secret uses simple rhyming language and whimsical storytelling to show kids how important it is to be true to oneself. It promotes themes of friendship, acceptance, and being proud of who you are.
