Make It Your Own
by Frances Fayerweather

This book is to let people know that you can adjust any pattern to fit any project you want to make. I hope this book will also encourage young people to try it and you will succeed. Hopefully this book will help you create many toys to sell or give away. With the different types of yarn available in the stores today the beautiful colors, textures, and ideas you have for them you can have a successful business. When creating your own design most people like original designs and usually increases business. When you add or decrease stitches that changes a pattern write it down you may want to use it again. I prefer smaller toys for the younger children. For older children they like toys in their favorite color and like a larger one. The different textures of yarn today makes it easier to make the toy look real especially the fuzzy ones for rabbits or dog and cats. Sparkling yarn for clothes. Fine yarn for small detail. Making toys you create may get a name or speaks to you what colors to use, what size it should be or who should have it. Remember when you buy yarn the same company brand works well. Soft yarn for hair and clothes and firmer yarn for body, hats and shoes. Most of all enjoy this hobby and learn some new techniques to make it your own.

This book is to show you not to be afraid to make adjustments when creating a toy design. Directions are not always easy to follow. I have only been crocheting for five years and seldom repeat the pattern the same way again and again. I like a certain style and will take apart an redesign to my liking. I hope this book will be easy to understand and realize directions can be adjusted.

I was born and grew up in Rhode Island. My mother of mixed origin Latin and father a member of the Niantic tribe which is part of Rhode Island indigenous history. I have been married for 60 years lived in New Mexico and Rhode island a year and New York 58 years I have two sons a daughter in-law and granddaughter they are all exceptionally talented. They have encouraged me to write this book. I have crocheted toys for children at Christmas. I never follow the instructions given always making adjustments because the toys are too big or not in correct proportion. My education beyond high school was business school and junior college. I have given art students advice that was a positive asset to them. I will try almost any hobby or project in fact my husband bought me a hammer many years ago. That’s been used on many projects. This is my first book and hope it has something that will be useful to make your project your own. I have only been crocheting about five years and there is a lot more to learn about this hobby. I go to the public library each week and the women there encourage and support each other. The projects they make knit or crocheted are just beautiful for their family or items given to local charities in our community.
