Bonga Bonga & Grandpa
Lucky the Hamster
by Geoffrey B. Haddad

When Grandpa’s neighbour goes on holidays and asks him to take care of her pet hamster, Lucky, Bonga Bonga is beyond excited when Grandpa asks for her help. Drawing on his childhood experiences with guinea pigs and rabbits, and the neighbour’s written instructions, Grandpa teaches his granddaughter how to feed, water, exercise and attend to all of the needs of this small animal. Bonga Bonga and Grandpa: Lucky the Hamster is the second book in the Through the Years with Bonga Bonga series. Educational and entertaining, Lucky the Hamster will teach young readers about family, responsibility, and the natural world. This series of true stories was inspired by the love of a grandfather for his first grandchild, affectionately known as Bonga Bonga. Brightly illustrated and simply told by Bonga Bonga as she heard the tales from her grandfather. These delightful tales will make excellent additions to personal and school libraries alike.

Geoffrey B. Haddad comes from the small island of Jamaica and now makes his home with his family, including four grandchildren in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where Bonga Bonga was born. A professional engineer, Geoffrey enjoys the outdoors, is a radio control model aeroplane enthusiast and sportsman who now spends a significant amount of his time with his grandchildren; assisting them with homework, arts and crafts, music, sports, preparation of meals, numerous outdoor activities and a variety of projects. Geoffrey delights in telling others that his familiar love for children and in particular, his grandchildren, was inherited from his own father. A published author, Geoffrey’s first book, If I’m Not back by Wednesday: Trapped in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains – A True Story, as well as his first children’s book, Bonga Bonga and Grandpa – A Fish Story, have received several positive reviews from notable persons. He hopes that the Bonga Bonga series will bring enjoyment to many children, grandchildren, and grandparents. You can learn more about Geoffrey and his work at
