Noyes Notes…on Transposition
A Transposition Method for Wind Musicians
by Randal C. Noyes

What is it?

How do you do it?

Why and when does a musician need it?

How do you get started learning it?

In Noyes Notes…on Transposition, trumpeter, music educator, and technical writer Randal C. Noyes uses simple, concise language to answer the most frequently asked questions about transposition.

Noyes Notes…on Transposition dispels the mystery, confusion, and anxiety that wind musicians often feel when they need to play an arrangement in a different key or read from another instrument's music.

Noyes Notes…on Transposition includes 21 Quick Reference charts to help you transpose effectively and quickly when time is critical.

If you don't transpose, Noyes Notes…on Transposition will show you how. If you can transpose, this book will deepen your knowledge of the process.

Noyes Notes…on Transposition will teach you how to transpose any part for any instrument in any key.

Randy Noyes is an experienced trumpet player, music teacher, and technical writer.

His love of the trumpet and his passion for music were ignited in the school bands in Fairview Montana through the teaching of Robert Metzger.

Randy began his professional music preparation by studying trumpet and brass pedagogy with Butler Eitel at the University of Montana at Missoula.

He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Music Education at Dickinson State University in North Dakota studying trumpet with Robert Plaehn.

Randy spent a life-changing summer working at the National Music Camp at Interlochen Michigan studying with Leon Rapier, then principal trumpet of the Louisville Symphony.

Randy began his career teaching band and choir in schools in North Dakota and in Alberta Canada. He has been employed for over 25 years as a technical writer in Edmonton Alberta helping companies train their employees, inform their customers, and document their projects.

He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 390, Edmonton, Alberta.

In Noyes Notes...on Transposition, Randy combines his writing skills with his love of teaching music.
