Moments of Wonder
by Evelyn Wolff

Part celebration of visual art, part celebration of the written word, Moments of Wonder is one woman’s grateful tribute to the profound interludes that move her into “wonder.” These deeply spiritual “moments” resonate in the writing with a rare depth of feeling that makes for a gripping and engaging read. The author’s capacity to conjure imagery in words shines even more brightly beside her remarkable glass creations, making this a truly enchanting collection.

It would be hard to say which is more powerful – the words or the images – in this extraordinarily beautiful and moving collection. Evelyn Wolff’s stained glass art doesn’t just let light through, it captures it. Her words do the same. As I read them their radiance lifts me out of myself, carries me away, then brings me firmly back to my body and the so-easy-to-forget realization that the secret to enlightenment is: be here now.

-Teri Degler, author of The Divine Feminine Fire: Creativity and Your Yearning to Express Your Self

I am transfixed in many of these ‘Moments of Wonder’ as I read them and view the inspired stained glass images. They fill me with wonder and appreciation for the talent, insight, self-reflection and pure genius of this being called Evelyn Wolff. Each short ‘essay’ makes time stand still, allowing me to see, smell, hear, and touch these precious moments experienced to their fullest. You are about to embark on a journey of wonder.

-B. Glenn Copeland, Director Kidplayhouse Productions Inc., Actor/Singer/Songwriter for Mr. Dressup, and Sesame Street.

“Moments of Wonder” is Evelyn Wolff’s first book. For almost 40 years, Evelyn balanced her career as a stained glass artist, with the life of a physician practising and teaching integrative medicine. She recently retired from medicine to give herself wholeheartedly to her art. Her 38 year practice of Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism, has been a healing, and guiding force informing her life and creativity. With an apprenticeship in the European tradition of stained glass, Evelyn combines a finely tuned colour sensibility, with a flair for innovative design and engineering that stretch the limits of this crystalline medium. The radiance of the resultant artform, is the fruit of Evelyn’s continuing dedication to life. When not creating glassworks, she can be found at the Belleville YWCA swimming, at Gallery 121 showing glass, and facilitating environmental groups. For adventure she travels through the beauty of northern Ontario sharing with far flung friends and Buddhists; for rest and reverie she goes to the cottage on Lake Mississagagon, swimming with the resident loons, or walking the woods with her dog Trixie, and the wild turkeys.
