Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs
The Road to Unity and Spiritual Maturity
by James D Janzen

The way we worship becomes the way we believe, which in turn becomes the way that we think, interact and feel. No wonder worship is at the heart of so many controversies in the church. Paul’s teaching on psalms, hymns and spiritual songs explores the relationship between this familiar song triad and spiritual maturity, making the bold claim that worship can lead to unity rather than conflict and division. This book links Paul’s song triad with other scriptural triads in a way that radically changes the lens through which the practice of worship is viewed. Practical strategies and study make this book an essential individual or small group resource.

“This important new resource draws on a rich array of biblical and musical scholarship to articulate a theology of music that is true to scripture, rooted in history, and contextually relevant—a breath of fresh air in the realm of worship studies!” — Dr. Vernon J. Charter, Professor Emeritus (Music and Worship Arts), Prairie Bible College “. . .penetrating study and insight provided in this very interesting treatment... I gladly join with this call for the Church to thoroughly learn and practice this trinity of song forms.” —Gerrit Gustafson, author of The Adventure of Worship: Second Edition “The author hopes for nothing short of a revolution in the personal, corporate and worship lives of Christians.” — Rev. Ron Man, Worship Resources International, author of Proclamation and Praise “An enlightening proposition of what it means to worship with our ‘heart, soul and mind’...” — Darlene Ketchum, Director of the Institute of Music Ministry, Pacific Life Bible College “This book is a challenge to the contemporary church to move beyond simple entertainment and programming to growth and maturity.” — Dr. Stephen Benham, Associate Professor of Music Education, Duquesne University
