A Prison Within
by
Thadeus [Twig] Weiss
Do I really want to survive this?
Thadeus is just 21 years old when a diving accident changes the direction of his life forever. A spinal cord injury leaves him paralyzed from neck to feet, and the activities that once fulfilled him – cars, sports, music, flying – are no longer possible. He spends two years in hospital, enduring a painful recovery process. Amidst physical pain, he struggles to accept the loss of the life he knew – and foresee a life worth living. With the help of family, friends and medical staff, Thadeus makes the ultimate decision: choosing survival, choosing to live.
After undergoing a challenging recovery, Thadeus (Twig) Weiss relocated to Thunder Bay, Ontario and began a new life. He went back to school and began volunteering with organizations that help those with physical disabilities. He strives to live a positive, productive life – one with purpose. He spent 12 years as the President of the H.A.G.I. (Handicapped Action Group Incorporated). During this time, with the support of the Canada Arts Council, Thadeus wrote A Prison Within. He hopes his book inspires those who struggle with physical disabilities, as well as their friends, family, and anyone dealing with loss to live fully.
