S is for Street Games
An Alphabet Rhyming Book
by
Sydney White Joshua
Follow Cindy and Wade through a hot New York City summer as their family gears up for a move to Long Island. Cindy loves life in the city, particularly the games she and her friends play in their neighborhood. There’s no way Long Island can compare—right? S is for Street Games takes readers through the alphabet with urban and suburban sights and sounds and plenty of retro games.
“I felt as if the author was sitting on my front stoop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on a hot summer day in 1987, watching the girls against the boys playing skully. The entire book brought so many wonderful memories to mind. It also made my husband and I take our son to our local park and school him on the old game of handball. Happy to say I didn’t pass out. What a fantastic book!!!! Full of reminders of yesterday’s street games and how to bring them back today. Get out and play (K)ickball, have an (I)talian Ice and grab this book. It’s definitely a book you’d want everyone you know to read. It was an absolute heartfelt joy, every single page.” —C. Martinez “S is for Superb! This cleverly written story takes us from the city life to suburban life while highlighting each letter of the alphabet. The relatable storyline is brought to life by the nostalgic look back at childhood games, making this an excellent and engaging read aloud! A definite must-have for every library collection!” —F.E. Underwood, MS in Ed, Early Childhood Teacher
Sydney White Joshua has been an elementary school teacher for nearly two decades. She is a credentialed model teacher who enjoys sharing her love of literacy with children in the primary grades. She is also the author of the well-received, adult humor title: Dear Mommy’s Boss: A Kid’s Perspective of the Corporate Workplace (2021). In second grade, Sydney moved from the city to the suburbs, trading the skully board for the softball field, and double dutch for dodge ball. When she isn’t writing, Sydney can be found at the beach, yoga studio, or at the batting cage … trying to keep her childhood batting average alive ... Connect with her at sydneywjoshua.com.
