In his 57 years of medical practice, Dr. Hall worked in rural and remote areas around the world, from the Arctic to Oceania. He became a parent, then a grandparent – the patriarch of a large brood of fellow adventurers. In his off time, far from laying low and taking it easy, he set off exploring, visiting 70 countries and counting. A life lived so adventurously generates innumerable stories, and in this volume Dr. Hall has shared some of his favourites. Part memoir, part travelogue, and all told in the spirit of curiosity and generosity, Dr. Hall’s book reflects on the evolution of medical practice and lessons learned through travel. His experiences have taught him that ‘anything unusual that can happen will happen,’ and he shares those tales with humour and good nature.

Harry Hall is a retired M.D. and an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. He is a recipient of the Glen Sawyer Service Award from the Ontario Medical Association for his contributions to the field. An avid traveller, he lives with his wife in rural Ontario; they are both keen outdoorspeople who enjoy skiing, canoeing, and photography among other pursuits. He is still riding his fifty year old peugeot ten speed bicycle, paddling his sixty year old cedar strip canoe and downhill skiing. An avid naturalist, Harry can be found outside exploring nature and its constant changes. A perfect day for him is paddling his canoe on a remote quiet lake. This is Dr. Hall’s first book.
