There's No Place Like Home
A Year in Transition from Working to Stay-At-Home Mom
by Jane Bedard

When author and teacher Jane Bedard shifted from working mom to Stay-at-Home Mom, her eyes opened to a brand new world, so different from the one she returned home to each night. With her autopilot control turned off, she was surprised to find a vegetarian, a carnivore, a pescetarian, and two nuggetarians at her kitchen table. When did that happen, and what else awaited her? Join Jane as she addresses daily dilemmas so many of us face, such as: When is it a good idea to tell a stranger to stick a piece of garlic up her ass? Why is Batmom better than Supermom? If you unexpectedly find yourself in a Thai brothel for a massage, how much do you tip? Is it irresponsible parenting if a game of catch accidentally lands your kids at the edge of the Grand Canyon? How do you say goodbye to the people you love? THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME celebrates that most domestic and exotic of all professions: The Stay-at-Home Mom, yet embraces women from all vocations with poignant and hilarious commentary on motherhood & childhood, sisterhood & daughterhood, wifehood & friendshiphood... all from within Toronto’s hood and beyond.

"Any working parent who feels the temptation to abandon the office should read There’s No Place Like Home. Jane lays out in hilarious, sometimes heart-wrenching detail how her year off led to adjustment, adventure, connection, and deep reflection on the pivotal moments in life that we often speed by." —JODY MCCORMACK, Kick-Ass Lawyer and Mother of Three "There's No Place Like Home is engaging, relatable, funny, and moving. I felt as if I was living vicariously through an adventurous spirit who has traded in the tornado of career obligations for the tsunami of family life." —CORRIE COE, Whoop-Ass Television Executive and Mother of One. "As the mother of seven children, all I can say (between tears of laughter and sorrow) is that Jane gets me. A must-read read for all moms." —ANDREA SIKKEMA, Bad-Ass Stay-at Home Mother of Seven

Jane Bedard is a freelance writer whose humorous and moving articles on parenting and family have appeared in The Globe and Mail, Canadian Living, Reader’s Digest, Mamalode.com, and Parent.Co. She is a regular contributor to The Voice of Pelham newspaper and continues to take steps to hone her craft. Jane earned a B.A. in English and enjoyed careers as a copywriter, then as an English and French teacher, despite feeling less mature than her students. Residing outside Toronto, Canada in the thick of the testosterone of three sons, a husband, and two male cats, Jane dodges balls (tennis, soccer, golf, basket, fur) and seeks the funny in every situation, no matter how challenging. When she’s not writing or driving her kids to sporting events, she is also not cleaning her house; however, she is always on the lookout for new friends and adventures.
