Simone and the Dove King
by Janice Sabulsky

Simone and the Dove King is a childrens book that speaks to the subject of bullying. As the story progresses the main character, Simone, experiences hurt and rejection from other young diamond doves within her community because she looks different. The description of her experience allows children to feel the impact and pain bullying causes not only to Simone, but to her entire family. The book concludes on a positive note, with the bullies being shown how wrong their actions were and how being different than others can be a positive attribute

Janice Sabulsky lives in Northern British Columbia. She has had a bird rescue sanctuary in her home for over 20 years. People who no longer want to care for their pet birds bring them to her sanctuary. The project began with the rescue of a disabled diamond dove named Simon. Before long, people started arriving at her door with unwanted or handicapped pet birds. Janice loves to photograph the birds and she creates children's stories using the photographs as inspiration. This is the fourth children's book that she has published including Drake and the Ducks, The Story of Simon and Krikey Runs Away. Each of the books has been created as a legacy project for one of her grandchildren.
